OFWs holding “permesso di soggiorno" (permit to stay) generally enjoy the same benefits Italians enjoy, except the right to vote. Recently, however, the Italian government opened doors to the election of “consiglieri aggiunti" (additional councilors) at city and municipal levels, among candidates from immigrant groups.
